Bath

Our next stop was Bath. The Roman springs still exist, and the original pool has been excavated--it is about six meters lower than the surrounding city. We saw the mix of Celt and Roman, all overlaid with the most pretentious and impressive 18th Century and Victorian facade. Think Jane Austen, and gossip, and wealth, and reputation. We "took the waters" in the pump room (at 45p per glass), and found them hot and gassy and not at all appetizing. [1997]
