7 May post by Christine

Hellvelyn was quite a daunting hike. Even before we started the hike, several individuals told us that we (in clean terms) would be insane to climb it. Professor Bennion told us all that it was probable that we would hike around the forest surrounding the mountain instead of braving the strong winds on top of the mountain.

Upon closer inspection, we decided to go up the mountain! It took about 45 minutes of stair climbing to reach the top, and, once there, the wind truly began to blow. I thought I knew wind, being a native of Chicago, but this wind was almost enough to blow over a small child. No worries! We are all strapping young people and we are all safe and well! The hike down the mountain was beautiful – waterfalls, stone walls, good weather, and sheep. It was a wonderful day.
